Team meeting and excursion in the “Global Pastures” project

From 31 August to 4 September, Prof. Dr. Roland Hardenberg participated in the third team meeting and field trip for the research project “Global Pastures: Ethnographic Explorations of Alpine Grassland Connections”, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano-South Tyrol since 2023. The project is led by Prof. Dr. Viviane Cretton (HES-SO Valais-Wallis, Switzerland) and Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Tauber (Free University of Bolzano, Italy).

The third team meeting took place on the first day in a seminar room at L'Aubier in Montezillon (near Neuchâtel), where the two project collaborators, Dr Almut Schneider (HES-SO Valais Wallis, Switzerland) and Stefan Festini Cucco (Free University of Bolzano, Italy), presented their research findings for discussion. This was followed by a discussion of publications and other activities that could be used to conclude the project, as well as how the various participants would summarise it.

Over the following days, the research team visited various locations in Switzerland to learn about ecological grazing projects in rural and urban areas. These included the forest pastures near Les Breuleux, the Bergerie de Froidevaux above Soubey in the Clos du Doub valley, and the work of the company “Naturpflege” in Biel.
