On October 1–2, the DGSKA’s Working Group on the History of the Discipline held its mid-year conference in Frankfurt, organized by Katja Geisenhainer and Richard Kuba.
Once again, the focus was on the presentation of ongoing master’s and doctoral theses with a focus on the disciplines history. The diverse presentations impressed with their careful contextualization, consideration of contemporary ideologies, and, overall, their profound and sensitive approach. Framed by contributions from Katja Geisenhainer and Richard Kuba, the conference also featured Michael Kraus, curator of the Ethnological Collection at the University of Göttingen, and Christoph Rippe, a researcher with the “Visual Analytics for Images from Colonial Contexts” project at the Frankfurt University Library, as speakers. Their insightful presentations and remarks greatly enriched the interim conference. The discussions continued during the coffee breaks. Christoph Rippe also guided all participants through the collection of images from colonial contexts at the Frankfurt University Library, and Richard Kuba led a tour of the Frobenius Institute’s collections. We extend our sincere thanks to the DGSKA as well as the Nassauische Sparkasse for their financial support, which was invaluable in making this conference possible.
