Summer Symposium 2023

On June 22 and 23, the 5th Summer Symposium was hosted by the Frobenius Institute.

After a keynote lecture by Prof. Joachim-Felix Leonhard, former State Secretary, which provided insights into the work of UNESCO, young ethnologists presented their recent and ongoing research. The Frobenius team and the organizers of the symposium were delighted with the quality of the papers and work presented. Talks and posters represented the entire span of the field. Thematically, contributions ranged from reports on research in archives and digital repatriation projects to detailed ethnographic field reports. A broad spectrum was also covered regionally. Reports included ethnomusicological research in the Andes, as well as work on Christianity in French Polynesia, Bahà'ís in Kyrgyzstan, the importance of silence in Madagascar, and the role of various grains in Namibia.

On the second day – after a guided tour of the Institute's collections as well as a workshop on publishing in Paideuma – the exhibition "Related Beings" was ceremonially opened with a small snack.

We would like to thank all participants for these two wonderful days!
