Sophia Schäfer studied Protestant theology in Mainz, Berlin, and Heidelberg and received her ecclesiastical degree from the Protestant Church in Hessen and Nassau (EKHN) and her diploma in Protestant theology from the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg in 2015. She then completed a post-graduate diploma on Islam and interfaith dialogue at the Henry Martyn Institute in Hyderabad (India) as a scholarship holder of the Martin Niemöller Foundation. She subsequently completed her vicariate in 2018 Lollar, near Giessen. She has been employed since July 2018 through the Collaborative Research Center 1070 "Resource Cultures" (Tübingen) as a research associate in the subproject "Religious speech as a resource in Central and South Asia: instruction, medialization and commercialization".
