Paideuma
Founded in 1938 by Leo Frobenius, Paideuma is one of the oldest and most renowned journals of cultural anthropology in the German-speaking world. Every year, a volume of about 320 pages with contributions in German, English and French is published by Reimer-Verlag (Berlin). While the initial concentration was on the history and cultures of Africa, in recent years Eastern Indonesia, Oceania, and South and Central Asia have been added as regional foci. In addition to topics of general theoretical interest, research on alterity, materiality, globalization, the history of the discipline as well as environmental and climate change are increasingly being considered, in line with the orientation of the Frobenius Institute. Newly introduced rubrics to go alongside the more traditional book reviews and obituaries such as ‘Special section’, ‘Forum’, ‘Conversation’ or ‘Read again’ offer the possibility to publish shorter contributions presenting a particular thematic focus, taking a position in the context of current debates, documenting interviews, or subjecting the classics of the discipline to new readings. A double-blind peer review of all submitted manuscripts serves to maintain the journal’s high quality standards. The current editor is Roland Hardenberg.
