On April 5th and 6th, 2023, the workshop "Saving (for) the future' - Informal savings and insurance associations as future-making practices" took place at the South Omo Research Center of the University of Jinka, Ethiopia.

It was the second workshop of the DFG project "On the saf(v)e side: Informal business associations and future aspirations in the Ethiopian diaspora". In addition to the 14 presenters, the workshop was attended by a number of staff from the University of Jinka, as well as employees of governmental and non-governmental organizations. It kicked off with Dr. Alula Pankhurst's keynote lecture, "Uncaptured civil society? iddir funerary insurance and iqqub savings institutions."
