Since 2021, Manuel Respondek is a PhD student in the Collaborative Research Center 1070, researching on interacting resource cultures and socio-cultural change in the Andalusian province of Huelva and the Cuenca Minera de Riotinto. Manuel studied cultural and social anthropology at the Philipps University of Marburg, Germany, and his master's thesis is on "Formen der Macht und Widerstand in (Un)sicherheitsdiskursen. Eine Analyse von Hegemonie, Identität und Intersektionalität am Fallbeispiel der Resistencia Pacífica de Ixquisis, Guatemala". In 2016-2017, he served as an international human rights observer in Guatemala. At the University of Bern, he studied social anthropology and wrote his bachelor thesis on educational strategies of underage refugees in the canton of Bern.
